THE LEGENDARY LANDMARK OF CEBU

Cebu City has a lot to offer, from various places to foods. But Cebu City’s one of most visited spots is the legendary MAGELLAN’S CROSS. Magellan’s Cross holds the big part of the history in Cebu. It is believed to be the mark of Portuguese and Spanish explorers headed by Ferdinand Magellan. It was built upon their arrival in Cebu on March 15, 1521 which is the day also marked the birth of Christianity in the land. The cross is believed to have a miraculous healing power that gives healthy and free from worry problems. Rumors spread that says the original cross was destroyed or disappeared after the death of Magellan.

The Magellan’s cross is housed in a small chapel located near in the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño on Magallanes Street Cebu City, right in front of the Cebu City Hall. Visiting the Magellan’s Cross will surely awaken your sense of religious. For it is the symbol of Christianity and a memory of the history of Cebu. When you entered the chapel, the first thing you can see is the big wood cross and paintings that symbolizes the Spanish colony and the marker at the foot of Magellan’s Cross.

The easiest way to get there is via taxi as they would definitely know the exact location. You can also get on a jeepney with a signboard going to the City Hall or Basilica. When you finally there, the place has a lot of vendors that sells candles for you to pray and appreciate the religious beauty of the Magellan’s cross. You can also ask right questions regarding the cross if you want to know more because there is a lot local will entertain you.
