“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jamie Lyn Beatty
Working hard is good. It helps you purchase your needs and wants, especially on pay days. You can buy clothes, accessories, gadgets, and anything you want because basically you have your job. And it feels good to have those things you desire, collection of books, bags, shoes or toys (if you are fond of collecting miniatures). But did you thought about relaxing and chilling, free from stress and work, and most of all, fulfilling your collection? Not things. But a collection of memories. I believe that “The best things in life, are not things”. And i live for it.
Sometimes discovering places and make yourself distance from your job is good for your health. There is a study that shows employees who take more holidays were more productive that employees who did not take trips. Taking trips are not just good for your physical health, it also improves your mental health and emotional health. It tends to give refreshment into your whole being. In that case, you would motivated to work well and hard for your next trip. yay 🙂
Travelling is the kind of activity, which almost all the people love. For someone it is an opportunity to relax and abstract from everyday busy life. For others it is interesting to observe the way people of other cultures and mentality live. Some people consider it to be the best way to have fun. Some seeks adventure and keeps coming back to the ocean. Beach, the most common getaway destination of a lot of people.
I was really excited when I got finally the chance to visit and see this place with my family because I’ve seen a lot of photos and heard a lot of awesome stuff about this island. My mom was from Kawit, Medellin and since we’re visiting our province yearly we decided to go to the island. A lot of blogger, vlogger or even simple tourists say that it’s a must-visit and that the long trip from the city will be so worth it. So it’s time to unravel the secrets of Funtastic Island.
Gibitngil Island or Funtastic Island is famous for its colorful cottages on top of rocks and coral rocks surrounded with pristine turquoise waters. The Island is indeed a place to relax and enjoy the ocean breeze and enjoy the crystal clear sea water. The island is a wonderful sight to see!
You can do the basic beach activities such as grilling some fish and meats, renting a cottage is a must here, swimming until you get exhausted, cliff diving, sunbathing if you like, walk along the shores and such.
HOW TO GET THERE:
From the North Bus Terminal in Subangdaku, Mandaue City, take a bus going to Kawit, Medellin. Last year, the fare was only P150.00 for regular and P143.00 for students with ID. And BTW, just don’t fail to ask/remind the conductor to drop you off at Medellin dock where heading to the Gibitngil Island (known as FUNtastic Island ) is located.
We have a house their where my grandmother, grandfather and tita together with her family were residing. Me and my mom decided to bought necessities such as food and drinks.
For new tourists, make sure to but your necessities in the City of Kawit, if ever you don’t have them before you headed on the island because some are not available in the island. Make sure you write down all those stuff you need prior going to the island. We asked then the people there where can we take a boat for transfer. There were boats for P700.00 that can accommodate to 8 persons and P1,500.00 good for 20 persons or more depending on your baggage load. Sea travel would be around 20 minutes, no traffic.
Note: BRING ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU NEED. There are some carenderias but don’t expect a 5 star service. It is kind of self-service.
Things you can do:
30 Feet Cliff Jumping – free
Kayak – P150.00 / hr.
Zip line – P50 / one way ride
Planning to stay overnight?
Nope, not recommended. There are no rooms available, or should I say I don’t recommend staying there especially with the condition of their rooms. If you opt to stay overnight, your options are the cottages which will cost you an additional fee and a small house of Vilma Mayol which will cost you PHP 1,200 good for 20 heads.
Electricity?
Nope, the whole island is under powered by solar panels which is only good for maximum of 10 hours lighting. Bring power banks instead for your phones.
This island will surely ease your broken hearts, captivate your eyes and heal your souls. If you need a “Me-time”, a quiet vacation with your love ones, or just a payback vacation for yourself with less stress and far from the city. This is the island you surely needed to be.
