COLON STREET BEAUTY AND MADNESS

Named as the oldest street in the Philippines, Colon Street is famous for its street food and cheap finds.

When you get there, you’ll be greeted by various shops that sell goods at a low price. It is an alternative shopping spot of SM and Ayala Mall. You’re 500 pesos will go a long way, trust me. Apart from being a thrift destination, Colon is also the heart of Cebu. It is one of the most vibrant places during Sinulog; night markets, street parties and eateries are few of its highlights. Pubs and restaurants are just a ride away or within the vicinity making it your easy-nightlife access.

Colon being full of life is not new to Cebuanos. However, it has also its bad point like any other place. It is in its worst during rainy season; you’ll get stuck for hours. Traffic situation in the area is sometimes intolerable during rush hours. You also need to be cautious when going there especially at night, lawless beings are present according to locals and to some who have experienced their unlawful acts such as robbery, pickpocketing and the likes.

Lastly, dangerous or not, beautiful or chaotic, you cannot fully experience Cebu if you won’t visit Colon street. It shows a trace of the Spanish era in the Philippines. It gives an atmosphere of victory and defeat. You need to experience the place, its people and their culture to fully appreciate the beauty of the oldest street in the Philippines. It is worth the little danger and trusts me when I say it’d make your experience an adventure of a lifetime.
